Conferences & Training

  HICS materials available
The California EMS Authority has completed and released materials for the newly revised Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).  Materials include a guidebook and glossary, FAQs, teaching materials, implementation guidance and resources, and an e-mail address for questions.  The online HICS Center has teaching materials and a variety of other resources; many require (free) site registration.
NIMS-compliance training for hospitals and healthcare systems
Two online classes are available through FEMA's Emergency Management Institute:

These classes satisfy NIMS-compliance standards for ICS-100 and ICS-200 training.  Other required classes, such as IS-700 (NIMS) and IS-800.B (NRF), are also available.

International Disaster Management Conference
The 29th annual International Disaster Management Conference was held in Orlando, January 31-February 3, 2008.  Topics included hospital preparedness, disaster medicine, mass casualty response, public health, interagency planning, and a host of others.  Proceedings from the  conference will be available online in the near future.  The 30th annual International Disaster Management Conference will be held February 18-22, 2009, in Orlando.  Provided by the Florida Emergency Medicine Foundation's Emergency Medicine Learning and Resource Center.

Preparedness training for hospitals
SAIC is delivering Hospital Emergency Management Concepts and Implications of WMD Terrorist Incident to hospital and health care management executives, senior service line and facilities managers, and medical and nursing directors nationwide.  The course is offered through the Office of Domestic Preparedness.  Classes may be scheduled through ODP at (800) 368-6498.  For information about the class, contact Bettina Stopford.
