Job Description
Fire
Marshal
The Fire Marshal directly supervises the
Assistant Fire Marshals and indirectly supervises all Fire Marshal
Office personnel and all operations involving code enforcement, new
construction, education and investigations.
Division Chief
Directs all aspects of the
assigned Operational Division, including oversight of all fire
suppression, fire prevention and community service activities. Responds as
Command Chief on greater alarms and as part of the Overhead Team (see
reference under Chief of Staff). Ensures implementation of District
objectives, effective project management, and appropriate interaction and
coordination with other agencies and the community. Reports to the
Assistant Chief.
Battalion
Chief/Suppression Companies
The
Battalion Chief (BC) on shift monitors and coordinates the daily response
operations and staffing of the career and volunteer suppression companies
within the assigned Operational Division. The BC responds to alarms to
assume command responsibilities when appropriate and fills a role in the
incident command structure on greater alarms. The Suppression companies
respond to fire, EMS, specialty rescue and public assist incidents.
Specific career response personnel maintain training for and staff the
hazardous materials, technical rescue and water rescue specialty teams.
Volunteer firefighters augment and support the career companies at
incidents and provide stand-by at career stations and public events.
Assistant Fire
Marshal
The Assistant Fire Marshal
(AFM), at the rank of Battalion Chief, supervises and coordinates the
Deputy Fire Marshals assigned to the Operational Divisions who are engaged
in conducting inspections, investigations, plan s
review and educational
programs. The AFM reports to the Division Chief regarding division
activities and receives direction from the Fire Marshal on district-wide
fire prevention programs and policies. In addition, the AFM assists with
the daily management of the Division’s support staff and the Community
Liaison.
Deputy Fire Marshals
Deputy Fire Marshals
assigned to the Operational Division s engage in conducting inspections,
fire
investigations,
plans
review, juvenile firesetter intervention, and are assigned as
building department and engine company liaisons,
and provide educational
programs. The deputies workloads are based on priorities
determined by the Fire Marshal.
Community Liaison
The Community Liaison participates in activities
promoting the Fire District to the communities within the assigned
Operational Division. They support and facilitates the response crews’
involvement with community activities. Interacts with local governments
and civic groups to communicate District activities and to maintain
awareness of issues with potential affect on District operations.
Organizes community service programs and special events. Represents the
District to local media agencies under the direction of and as back-up to
the Public Information Officer (PIO). Works in conjunction with the
Assistant/Deputy Fire Marshals, Director of Community Services and PIO to
arrange various components of safety campaigns and prevention activities.
