3rd Annual Sherwood Community Services Fair Moves to New Location)
The City of Sherwood, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) and the Sherwood YMCA will jointly host the annual Sherwood Community Services Fair. This year the fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 4, 2002, at the YMCA located at 23000 SW Pacific Highway in Sherwood. For the past two years, the family event has been held at the Sherwood Fire Station. However, the fire station is currently undergoing a $600,000 remodeling and seismic upgrade project, which required moving the fair to an alternate site
The event, which drew more than 600 people last year, features dozens of exhibits by public and nonprofit agencies, crime prevention information, fire and life safety tips, rides, and free hotdogs and Coke. Agencies with exhibits include: City of Sherwood Police with their K-9 Patrol and McGruff the Crime Dog; Sherwood Public Works features a backhoe that kids can actually operate and dig dirt and 'gator' rides; Sherwood Parks Department, Sherwood Library, and Chamber of Commerce will have displays; Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue will have several fire engines, the TVF&R Pipes and Drum Corps, Robbie the Robot Fire Hydrant and the Fire Safety House where deputy fire marshals teach children how to escape from a house fire; Washington County Sheriff will have a display; PGE will feature Hazard Hamlet, an interactive teaching tool about the safe use of electricity; Northwest Natural Gas will participate; Tualatin Valley Water District features an information booth; the Portland Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross will have disaster preparedness information; Metro West Ambulance will feature Andy the Ambulance; Providence Newberg Hospital will have a display; and Life Flight is scheduled to land.
Children under the age of 12 will want to sign up for a free drawing. Two names will be selected from the entries. Each will win a fire engine ride to school for themselves and two friends.
