(Sherwood Hosts 2nd Annual Community Services Fair)

The list is growing for public and private service agencies that will provide interactive displays, rides and information at the Second Annual Sherwood Community Services Fair. The newest additions are Washington County Sheriff's Office and Metro West Ambulance. Both will have vehicles on display and information to hand out. The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2001 at Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) Station 33 located at 655 N.E. Oregon Street in Sherwood. The fair, which attracted more than 650 people last year, is designed to provide an educational look at the many services and agencies that serve Sherwood residents.

TVF&R will feature its "Fire Safety House," a mobile facility used to teach children skills in escaping from a house fire. Additionally, children will get to squirt water from fire hoses and chat with a robot fire hydrant. Sherwood Police will provide crime prevention information and displays. Sherwood Public Works will give children a chance to scoop dirt with a backhoe and the Parks Department will provide children rides aboard their small utility vehicles. At 12 noon, LifeFlight is scheduled to land a helicopter at the site for public display.

Other groups participating include the Sherwood Library, Sherwood Parks Department, Sherwood Public Schools, Sherwood Family YMCA, Tualatin Riverkeepers, Sherwood Chamber of Commerce, Tualatin Wildlife Refuge, the Wetlands Conservancy, Helping Hands, Sherwood Youth Foundation, Providence Newberg, the Robin Hood Association, Hazard Hamlet, Emergency Nurses Association, Sherwood Senior Center, Sherwood Play School, the Elks, Rotary and Lions clubs of Sherwood, and Agape, a horse farm that caters to children with special needs.

Free soft drinks and hotdogs will be provided. For more information, contact the City of Sherwood at 625-5522.
