(Fire District Continues to Recruit New Firefighters)
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue is gearing up for its next hiring process and targeting qualified women and minorities in the process. Expecting to hire between 21-50 new firefighters (positions left by retiring firefighters), a committee comprised of District employees is strategizing how to help make the District’s workforce more diverse. The committee’s grass roots approach includes monthly information nights, flyers and brochures posted throughout the community, and representation at job fairs.
To give interested individuals more details on what it takes to become a firefighter with TVF&R, the District has been hosting a Monthly Information Night since October. The last Information Night will be held this Tuesday, January 10, from 6:30-9:00 pm at the Fire District’s Administration Center (20665 S.W. Blanton Street in Aloha). Those attending will hear from Fire Chief Jeff Johnson on what TVF&R looks for when hiring prospective employees. The Information Night also highlights TVF&R’s mission, hiring process, timelines, benefits, and volunteer opportunities, as well as higher education opportunities. In addition to the Information Nights, the District is also offering ride-along opportunities with emergency crews and practice sessions for the Physical Abilities Test.
Fire Chief, Jeffrey Johnson, states, "The District is committed to ensuring that its workforce reflects the community it protects." He added, "Our goal is to make our workforce more diverse, while at the same time maintain TVF&R’s level of excellence."
Applications will be accepted until February 9, 2001, with a written Civil Service exam slated for mid-March. Interested individuals can contact the TVF&R’s Job Hotline at (503) 259-1280, its Administration Office at (503) 649-8577, or visit its website at
