(12-Year Old Arrested for Role in Two-Alarm Wilsonville Condo Fire)
Late last night TVF&R fire investigators determined that a 12 year-old boy was responsible for starting a two-alarm condominium fire at the Boeckman Creek Condos at 29750 S.W. Courtside Drive in Wilsonville. After extensive interviews with fire investigators, the boy confessed to setting the fire. Clackamas County sheriff deputies arrested the boy who was charged with Arson in the 1st Degree and lodged at the Donald E. Long Youth Detention Center. Details surrounding how the fire was started are not being disclosed at this time.
A tenant who smelled smoke and saw flames out her rear window reported the fire at 5:24 p.m. At about the same time, another tenant who was going to a nearby laundry room saw flames and immediately began knocking on the tenants’ doors advising them of the fire. Additionally, several neighbors attempted to use fire extinguishers on the fire but were unsuccessful.
First-arriving firefighters found smoke coming from the eaves of the two-story building and flames travelling up the rear of the building that contained 10 condominium units. A second-alarm was called at 5:29 p.m. after firefighters discovered flames in the shared attic space. Firefighters made an aggressive fire attack that included pulling down ceiling material inside Unit 10, and cutting holes in the roof and walls in an effort to find and extinguish the fire. In addition, fire crews protected adjacent condominiums from the encroaching fire.
Unit 10, vacant at the time of the fire, and Unit 9, sustained extensive fire damage upstairs in the rear bedroom portion of the units. No damage estimates are available at this time.
With the exception of one resident in Unit 9, all other tenants were allowed back into their condominiums once firefighters determined it was safe. A crew remained on-scene for fire watch duty last night.
