(Firefighters to Throw Birthday Party for Baby Delivered at Fire Station Five Years Ago)
On Saturday, April 14, 2001, a small group of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters will reunite with 5-year old Mackenzie Kingston - a young girl they delivered on the front driveway of their fire station five years ago. The initial reunion will take place at the Jenkins Road Fire Station located at 14480 S.W. Jenkins Road in Beaverton (corner of Jenkins and Murray) at 1:00 p.m. The group will then move to Fire Station 61 (13730 S.W. Butner Road in Beaverton) for a birthday party with cupcakes and ice cream.
On April 14, 1996, Todd and Jan Kingston never imagined that their third child would be born in the driveway of a fire station. However, they soon realized on their way to Providence St. Vincent Hospital that Mackenzie was not going to wait to be born. Spotting the fire station, Todd quickly pulled into the driveway where he told paramedic Rob DeHaan that his wife was having a baby. Rob quickly rushed into the station to get, Lieutenant Stacie Peterson, another paramedic. Within minutes Mackenzie was born.
Lieutenant Stacie Peterson, who is listed as the delivering physician on Mackenzie’s birth certificate, states, "When Jan called us with the idea for a birthday get-together, I told her, "Absolutely, we’d love to meet our Mackenzie "Jenkins"." The Kingstons reside in Washington.
