(Fishing Derby Open to Special Needs Kids)
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue will host its 8th Annual Fishing Derby for Special Needs Children on Saturday, June 17th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Fishing Derby takes place at the Fire District's Regional Training and Simulation Center at 12400 S.W. Tonquin Road in Sherwood. The 16-acre facility has two small lakes stocked with rainbow trout.
Each child will be matched with a volunteer "fishing buddy" who assists the kids with catching and releasing the fish. The fishing buddies include firefighters, District employees and community volunteers from local government, civic and business groups. Each child receives a Polaroid photograph of their 'trophy fish' and a certificate of participation. The children, their families and caregivers will also be treated to a picnic lunch.
Registration is limited to the first 50 children. Parents and caregivers may register their child or children by calling the District's Fishing Derby Message Line at 642-0375. G.I. Joe's, Lowrie's Wilsonville IGA, Sherwood Elks and Beaverton Optimist Club, and International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1660 sponsor the event.
