(Local Students to Purchase Toys for Fire District’s Toy & Joy Program)

On Tuesday, December 5, at 9:30 a.m., TVF&R firefighters will be meeting Pat Chittock’s third-grade class from Raleigh Hills School at the Raleigh Hills Fred Meyer Store. The students represent one of nine classrooms (1-3 grade) that will be shopping for toys to donate to the Fire District’s Toy & Joy Program. The classrooms (over 100 students) have been earning money from their families since school began in anticipation of the holiday shopping event. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the classes will walk the short distance to the Fred Meyer store and, after making their toy purchases, will receive a snack and juice from Fred Meyer Store Manager, Tom Shea. The lesson in charitable giving has also afforded the children a lesson in math, as they have been using the Fred Meyer toy ads over the past several weeks to determine what they can buy. Pat Chittock has participated with TVF&R’s Toy & Joy for approximately six years. TVF&R’s Toy & Joy Program expects to help over 10,000 children this year.
