(Firefighters Plan Weekend Reunion with Baby They Helped Deliver)
Although trained and ready to handle a home delivery incident, the closest most firefighters get to actually delivering a baby is usually their own in a hospital setting. Not so, on August 10, when a Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crew helped deliver Tonia Cottrell’s baby at the family’s home located at 8600 S.W. Fannowood Lane in Beaverton. On Saturday, September 9, at 7:30 a.m., TVF&R firefighters will join mom, dad, sister, and new baby, Anton, at the Cottrell home for a reunion and photograph for the family’s scrapbook.
Recounting the incident, Captain Dave Halley, stated, "The timing could not have been better that day." He added, "We were in the engine conducting street surveys in the area when the call came in. We arrived at the house minutes later, and within five minutes, had a healthy baby boy." Firefighters will present the family, including baby Anton, with TVF&R t-shirts.
Media are welcome to attend the reunion.
